Programs for International Students

School of English and International Studies (SEIS)

Established in 1944, SEIS is one of the oldest and most prestigious schools of its kind in China. For more than half a century, it has made outstanding contributions to China’s English language teaching and research, and represents the nation’s highest standard in this field. It was one of the first Chinese university departments authorized to run a PhD program. Its English Language and Literature Program (undergraduate) is the Ministry of Education’s National Key Program.

SEIS has a strong faculty of professors and lecturers and its research covers the study of literature in English, linguistics, translation and interpreting, international relations, women’s studies, ethnic studies, and area studies (including American, British, Australian, Canadian, and Irish studies).

SEIS is devoted to developing the above disciplines into nationally best and internationally renowned programs. “Blazing new trails while keeping the fine tradition, working hard to win still greater glory”-this is the motto the school follows in building a better future.

Reasons for Choosing SEIS

²  Top-class teaching and research faculty: SEIS is recognized as the “flagship” school of the university and a national leader in studies of English language and literature.

²  Innovation, intercultural competence, and humanistic education: these are the three most important SEIS values.

²  All English-language classroom: all programs are taught in English and English dissertations are required.

²  Great opportunities of international programs: International and domestic students exchange programs are set up in cooperation with other renowned universities.

²  Great opportunities of research: research projects, publication, and academic forums, lectures, public speeches and academic luncheons. As a key Institution of English Language and Literature Program, SEIS has completed many state-level research projects and produced nearly 200 publications in the form of research monographs, translation works, textbooks, dictionaries and reading series. They range across the fields of British and American literature, Linguistics, Translation Studies and English Country Studies.

²  Full integration with the Chinese students’ community: international students will join the same class as the Chinese students, to understand the real Chinese community and build their future social network.
